Master Jae

Founder & Head Instructor

4th Degree Black Belt

Founder & Head Instructor of Eagle Tae Kwon Do. Life motto: "To be a decent human."

For Master Jae, martial arts has never been just about the kicks, the punches, or the medals—it is a lifelong vehicle for personal growth, community, and character. As a 4th Degree Black Belt and lifelong martial artist, he has dedicated his life to helping students in Northern Virginia find their own strength on and off the mat. His journey began at the age of seven. Quiet and looking to build his self-confidence and social skills, he stepped onto the mat for the very first time—and didn't just find a hobby, he found his calling. Early in his training, a single, powerful phrase from his Grand Master altered the course of his life: "Be sure to open your own Tae Kwon Do school." That advice sparked a fire to lead, share, and carve out his own legacy. Master Jae channeled that inspiration into relentless training, consistently competing and medaling in forms across the competitive Texas state circuit. Believing that a true martial artist is always a student first, he also became an active Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) practitioner—deepening his understanding of ground defense, leverage, and physical problem-solving. In search of a community to call home, Master Jae moved to Virginia, where he spent 17 years as a dedicated instructor before pouring his heart, soul, and wisdom into founding Eagle Tae Kwon Do, proudly serving the Annandale, Springfield, and Alexandria communities.

If you ask Master Jae what he hopes his students walk away with, he won't point to the trophy shelf—he points to grit and tenacity, gratitude and community, and, above all, decency. Be strong, but always look out for others and treat everyone with respect. — Master Jae, Eagle Tae Kwon Do

Frequently Asked Questions

We offer two distinct age-tailored programs: • Tiny Eagles: Ages 4 to 6 • Children’s Beginners: Ages 7 to 12

No prior experience is required! We use a step-by-step approach that builds basic martial arts skills in a fun, exciting, and completely achievable way.

Your first visit is all about observing! We pride ourselves on building strong relationships with our parents and community, and that starts before stepping onto the mat. During your first visit, you and your child will sit together, watch a class, and see our current students in action. You can even chat with parents nearby to ask questions! We want both you and your child to feel 100% comfortable and know exactly what to expect. Ready to try it out? If you like what you see, we invite you to sign up for our Trial Program. Your child will get their full uniform, step onto the mats, and experience the program firsthand.

Our membership allows students to attend up to 3 classes per week. While we highly encourage taking advantage of all 3 days, we recommend attending at least 2 days a week to see consistent progress.

Everything we do is guided by two core mission statements: • “To Be a Decent Human” — Great martial arts training goes beyond kicks and punches. We help our students build confidence, honesty, and tenacity so they grow into incredible people who positively impact their families and community. • “Soar Above Expectations” — We know every student is capable of more than they realize. By challenging our students just 0.01% more each class, we help them build confidence gradually and unlock their limitless potential.
